The Newstalk Moncrieff Christmas Poetry Competition 2009 is now closed
Below is the winning poem from Hazel Devereux, 6th class from Mercy Convent School, St. Johns Road, Wexford.
My Cosy Christmas By Hazel Devereux
Curled up by the fire is where I want to be, Snug as a bug, my family and me.
My mother carefully supping her wine,
Me drinking hot chocolate, Oh how divine!
My father gulping down his stout
That's what he thinks Christmas is all about!
We're all waiting anxiously
For Santa to come down the chimney,
We've laid out some water and paracetamol,
Cause all that running around makes him dizzy!
With all our Christmas presents
And all our Christmas gifts
It is true that we sometimes get set a-drift.
But this isn't a fact, its isn't a maybe Christmas is all about A certain little baby.
